JDRF Georgia’s annual Rock the Cure is a Brews and Blues event featuring the best Georgia has to offer in live music, local brews, great food and exciting raffle prizes. SweetWater Brewery has been the home of Rock the Cure since its inception in 2007. With “a little help from our friends” like you and SweetWater, Rock the Cure has raised more than $1 million for Type 1 Diabetes research.
In celebration of Rock the Cure’s 10th year rockin’, the JDRF Georgia Chapter and its Board of Directors introduced the Spears Mallis Rock Star of Hope award in 2016. The Rock Star of Hope is awarded to an individual who has made a significant impact on JDRF’s mission through their support of Rock the Cure.
We are very proud to announce that our 2019 Spears Mallis Rock Star of Hope award recipient is Dr. Bruce Bode along with his practice Atlanta Diabetes Associates!
Dr. Bruce Bode has been a diabetes specialist with Atlanta Diabetes Associates since 1985. He has a strong passion for working with children and adults with diabetes and is considered one of the preeminent experts in the world on insulin delivery and glucose sensing. He is an active researcher and, with his team at Atlanta Diabetes Associates, has helped to develop the leading treatments for type 1 diabetes including the Dexcom G6, Freestyle Libre, Medtronic 670G, Senseonics Eversense sensor, Fiasp insulin, and numerous other drugs and devices. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia chapters of JDRF and the American Diabetes Association as well as Medical Advisory Boards for many pharmaceutical and device companies. His fervor and dedication for treating Type 1 Diabetes is contagious and has resulted in the incredible growth of Atlanta Diabetes Associates which now employs 16 healthcare providers and over 70 support staff all dedicated to improving the lives of their patients. Atlanta Diabetes Associates has worked to advocate for their patients by their involvement as volunteers with Camp Kudzu, education of state legislators on relevant issues affecting those with diabetes, and steadfast support of JDRF at events such as Rock the Cure, The One Walk, and the Hope Gala.
"Without Dr Bode & Atlanta Diabetes Associates's support, Rock the Cure (RTC) would not be what it is today. The first year Dr. Bode asked me what our expenses were going to be. I told him $2,000. He said well I am going to sponsor the event for $2,000. He has been one my biggest supporters for RTC. He is not only the best Endo in the world but he is also my friend." -Spears Mallis, Rock the Cure Founder and Dr. Bode Patient
