I'm the take steps towards a cure type.

Walk with DA4d to help us find a cure for T1D

I'm participating in JDRF One Walk® to raise money to create a better future for the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). I'm Davis, and this is my Walk team: Dumbledore's Army for Davis.

Since we started our team in 2013, we have been a very active walk team. We have met new people, made new friends, been inspired by others, and made the best of T1D. Dumbledore's Army for Davis (DA4D) has become part of us, and has become a brand. We created a website, started an awesome event called DA4D Cabaret Night, and even have a custom logo that was created for our team! In other words, we mean business, but our business is about having fun.

I am an active teenager, going into 8th grade. I have played several sports over the years, never being slowed down by T1D. And I am very active in music and theatre programs with my school. In the school drama program, I have had a bunch of lead roles over the past few years, and with the school band I play saxophone. I am also part of the Bishop McDevitt Middle School Jazz Band, and am even participating with the high school marching band this year as an 8th Grader!

At home, I love time with family and friends, and am hooked on old Twilight Zone episodes, 1980s movies, all things Disney (history and pop culture) and Stranger Things! And we have maybe the coolest cat in the world: Henson, our Siberian.

When you have T1D, your pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. This means you must constantly monitor your blood-sugar level, administer insulin, and carefully balance these insulin doses with your eating and activity just to stay alive. For me, technology has been a big part of my life with T1D. I have been using an insulin pump (Team T:Slim!!), and recently started monitoring my BG with the Freestyle Libre. This is a sensor I wear and scan to test my BG, as opposed to pricking my fingers 5 or 6 (or more!) times a day.

With T1D there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope.

Your donation will support life-changing breakthroughs that make it safer and easier to live with T1D, until we find a cure.

Your support makes it all possible. Please share your support for DA4D today. Every day we get closer to a cure, and we all just want that day to get here as fast as possible.
