Welcome to my JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Page!
I'm taking part in the JDRF Ride for my second year because just riding 100 miles through the beautiful rolling hills of Saratoga wasn't fun enough, I need to do it in the blistering heat and 50 mph crosswinds of Death Valley.
Let me hit you with some T1D facts:
Is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin – the hormone that controls blood sugar levels
Strikes children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle
Requires constant carb counting, blood-glucose testing, and a dependence on insulin..."for-eh-ver" - Michael 'Squints' Palledorous
T1D is scientifically proven to make you look 7-10 times better in lycra bike shorts
But why am I riding? Besides being a Type 1 Diabetic for 17 years, I have seen and been a part of some of the research being done and funded by JDRF. I am lucky enough to have an awesome Endocrinologist who’s given me the opportunity to take part in research for new devices and therapies and they are incredibly promising. Can I slam a supreme pizza hungover in the dark like my college glory days? Not yet, but pretty damn close (maybe ⅔). What I can do is stop stressing over some of the worst parts of treating diabetes:
This lets me focus on the finer things in life:
JDRF is working hard to find a cure, but they can only continue with cold, hard cash from incredibly generous and good-looking donors such as yourselves. Decades of research has brought us to a transformative moment where scientific advances are being turned into therapies that are changing the course of T1D. Together we must drive as many of these therapies to market as quickly as we can.
Every dollar you donate today funds research for breakthroughs to help everyone with T1D live healthier and longer, until this disease no longer exists and all JDRF employees are out of a job.
