Brian was 28 when we found out that he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He did nothing to cause this and there was nothing we could do to stop it. In 2010 our at the time 11 month baby Joshua came within hours to losing his life to this terrible disease. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s ability to produce insulin is affected. Joshua was diagnosed after becoming so sick that while we didn’t know it it was shutting down. In the ER his symptoms were almost missed but once they figured out what was happening they found out he was in severe DKA-and his body was giving up the fight. They later told us his blood sugar was over 1260 and he was within hours of dying. We spent days in the hospital getting his body healthy again and learning how to help him with his new normal life. In the first year of Joshua’s life he had over 3000 shots, just to live. Brian and Joshua now have 10-12 finger pricks a day and have 2 devices attached to their bodies at all time as their life support. Everything they eat or drink must be weighed and calculated to provide them the insulin they need to live. While technology is helping them to live a better life it is not a cure! We walk with the JDRF to help improve technology and to find a cure! Please consider joining our team or donate to our page and together we can make a difference.
The walk is on October 7th! Please sign up to help us today!
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
