JDRF One Walk, Seabreeze 2024

The Byron-Bergen, Elba, and Oakfield-Alabama’s learning communities are teaming up to “stick it to type one diabetes”. All three districts have students and staff affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and we are working together to make a big impact at the largest
T1D event in the world.

On Sunday, May 19th,  the three communities will come together at Sea Breeze Park for the annual JDRF One Walk. The global initiative raises millions of dollars for T1D treatments and cures but, for our team, it’s personal.
Sophia (14) and Mckenna (13) are sisters and students at Oakfield-Alabama and their
mom works as the Athletics Secretary at Byron-Bergen. Sophia was diagnosed with T1D in November of 2018. McKenna was diagnosed in December of 2023. Despite being sisters, they need different strategies to treat their highs and lows. They both enjoy sports and being around friends and family. Both girls are incredibly strong and don’t let T1D stop them from doing anything that they want to accomplish.
Michael Diehl (5) was diagnosed in December 2023. He is a kindergarten student at Elba. He plays hockey for the Batavia Ramparts and loves the Buffalo Bills! His parents, Ashley and Jimmy along with his big sister, Evelyn, are so proud of how brave he has
been.
Our team’s goal is to educate our friends and family about T1D and the research that is
needed to find a cure for our kiddos and people everywhere. We walk with JDRF to
transform the lives of the millions of people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to be a part of the largest T1D event in the world.
Please consider joining our team and making a difference in the lives of everyone impacted by T1D. With your donation, you’ll support life-changing research that helps people with T1D live healthier and longer, until a cure is found.
